Locum Physician
MBChB, MD, FRACP
I started my working life as a laboratory trainee at Cook Hospital in Gisborne. After completing my degree at Otago Medical School I trained as a Physician in Auckland, and as a Clinical Pharmacologist in London. I practiced in these specialties at Auckland Hospital and also taught at the Auckland School of Medicine.
Along the way I worked in General Practice and Family Planning; chaired the Medical Council and IPPNW (NZ) – a doctor’s organisation opposing nuclear weapons; and in 1995 was awarded a CBE for services to medicine.
In recent years I have worked in conflict zones with Médecins Sans Frontières, an international, independent organisation for medical humanitarian aid.
I took on the role of Clinical Manager for Hospice Tairawhiti on a temporary basis from May 2011 to May 2012 and now provide locum cover when required. The role brings together the practical application of much of my previous experience.
