I am originally from Scotland and studied medicine in Aberdeen. In 1988, I completed my general practice training in the Highlands and after a time of worldwide travel, I returned to Scotland to work as a breast physician for The Scottish Breast Screening Service. Part of my role was breaking bad news and supporting women early in their cancer journey.
In 1997, I moved to Gisborne and became a part time doctor with the Gisborne Palliative Care Service, now Hospice Tairawhiti, working alongside its founder, Dr James Carstens. For the past ten years I have also worked as a general practitioner at Three Rivers Medical.
