Education Opportunity for Health Professionals

Hospice Tairawhiti are delighted to be bringing Peter and Jayne Huggard to Gisborne in July.

Dr Peter Huggard is a senior lecturer in the Division of Social and Community Health at the University of Auckland. His teaching and research interests are in therapeutic communication; compassion fatigue, burnout and resilience; and loss and grief.

Jayne Huggard is a counsellor providing staff support through individual and group supervision at Mercy Hospice Auckland as well as in private practice. A nurse, and previously a lecturer in the nursing programme at Manukau Institute of Technology, Jayne currently is an Honorary Professional Teaching Fellow in the School of Nursing at the University of Auckland. Her teaching areas are in therapeutic communication, self-care and psychosocial aspects of palliative care.

They will present four workshops for health care professionals, covering; Therapeutic Communication & End of Life Conversations; Working with Families; Loss, Grief & Bereavement; Self Care.
